Christmas decorations

We’re now headed towards the busy winter season for 2024 and with that in mind I’ve been making and finishing decorations for the season. Some of these are returning favourites to the shop and some new ones.

Returning to the shop will be the hand carved baubles which have both a round and pointed shape, they come in a variety of bright colours to match in with whatever theme your tree has. From royal blues to bright candy pinks, each one has been hand carved reminiscent of traditional victorian style cut glass. Also returning are the flat medallion decorations featuring pine cones, gingerbread men and baubles. Ideal for hanging on your tree but also they make great gift tags where you can write the name of the person on the reverse flat side.

New decorations entering for this Christmas are all made from porcelain which has a different finish than the stoneware decorations. All of these are made from a self-glazing parian clay body and so do not have a glossy finish to them. Botanical decorations feature a variety of winter foliage impressed into the clay surface and then coloured using underglazes.

Hearts and star shaped decorations will also be available, these have both a plain porcelain finish but also a bubble glaze. To create these I’ve mixed equal parts underglaze and dish soap together to create coloured bubbles on the surface. They take on a tie-dyed appearance and you can see the outlines of the bubbles held in position on the porcelain. My favourites of these have to be the blue tones since I think it also looks like water ripples.

These will all hopefully be coming to the shop in October and will also be available at events I’ll be at over the Christmas period.
