Saying goodbye to brown

It’s been a long time since a glaze left the chart, in fact it was 2018 the last time I actually discontinued a colour and that was pepper yellow if you can remember that long ago! It’s time for another glaze to leave the chart and this time it’s the turn of Natural Brown.

I’ve been winding down sales of brown since last year removing it from the made to order chart on tableware. It’s still been available for yarn bowls, pet bowls and light pulls but soon it’s going to be removed from the chart entirely. I’ll still be taking orders in this colour for a short time until the current supply of it runs out but after that it’s gone.

Usually I discontinue glazes if the materials that go into them become too expensive, difficult to acquire or the glaze itself is just too unpredictable and unstable in the firing. Unfortunately Natural Brown is pretty much all three of these, it’s always suffered from being a fairly inconsistent glaze going from a creamy brown when its too thick or too mat when thin on the surface.

I’m not sure yet if there’ll be another new glaze entering the chart - at least it might not happen for a while since even without it there are 6 charted colours. There are some colours I’ve always wanted to add to the chart though!
