Making the most of your handmade pottery at home
One of the most common questions I get asked about my pottery is whether it’s dishwasher safe. The answer is yes! My pieces are crafted to withstand being cleaned in the cycles of your dishwasher. But did you know they’re not just for serving and eating; they’re also great for cooking? You can use it in the oven to go from your kitchen directly to the table.
Autumn and winter is ideal for using pottery in the oven, baking apple crumbles or hearty casseroles and curries. You can also warm dinner plates in the oven so that your dishes are gentle warm to keep your meals hot for longer on the table. Set your oven to a low temperature, pop in your plates and in a few minutes your good to go.
There are a few care tips when using pieces in the oven;
Avoid thermal shock; while pottery is oven-safe I’d recommend putting pieces into a cold oven rather than pre-heated to allow it to come up to temperature slowly.
Soak your pieces in hot soapy water before loading in the dishwasher to remove baked on food.
You can also use pieces in the microwave
